For as long as I can remember I have wanted to go live in Cape Town, there is something about Cape Town that is highly appealing to me, it could be the ocean or the white sandy beaches or it could be sights such as Table Mountain. Whatever it is Cape Town has some of the most amazing suburbs which are highly sought after.
Cape Town has some of the most beautiful suburbs you can possibly see. On the popular Blaauwberg area you find suburbs such as Parklands which is a part of the fastest growing areas on the coast, located just 15 minutes from Cape Town and on the sought after Atlantic coastline.
Parklands’ is a very modern suburb the property available is in the form of townhouses, flats, apartments, cluster homes and large villas. Living in Parklands is pretty much like being on holiday all year around thanks to the white sandy beaches that seem to stretch on forever.

| Be prepared for all those extra costs that come with renting property |

Finding Cape Town property to let is all well, you can be prepared enough to pay off the deposit, key fees as well as the cover the water and electricity bills but will you be able to afford all the necessary things that you need?
We often take for granted the small things until they are no longer available to us. Moving house is a process and it may mean going a few days without a bed or a fridge.
Here are a few extra expenses which you may not have appropriately planned for in your budget:
- Moving
Finding a van or a moving company to help you move your stuff from one place to another may take longer than you think, movers are often booked long in advance and you can’t really book a moving company until such a time that you have the keys to your new place in your hand.
- Furniture, utensils and appliances
The possibility of you having to buy new furniture, fridges and cereal bowls is highly likely these things aren’t cheap so make sure you have money set aside for such.
- Food and toiletries
After all the time, energy and money used on the move you will also need to make sure you can afford necessities such as food and toiletries.
Living in a new place is exciting but make sure all your residential bases are covered.

We have all heard the phrase that says “people meet but mountains never greet” which is true.
But like many things in life our perceptions of the truth and what is actually true are often very different, take for example looking at houses for sale in Cape Town would you have imagined that there is a place very similar to Cape Town in neighbouring country Namibia?
The region of Erongo in Namibia is popular for its colourful volcanic landscapes, rock art, and animals such as the desert elephant and black rhino. Named after the Erongo Mountain which is a well-known landmark in Namibia, this well-developed region has everything a modern day African City should have. If you are looking at houses for sale in the region expect weekends to include fishing, winding surfing and there’s even an annual yacht race.
When one thinks of Cape Town they think of Table Mountain, those interested in houses for sale in Cape Town can expect to live in close proximity to one of the most popular Mountains in the African continent. Cape Town is more a holiday destination with attractions like the V&A Waterfront, Lions head and all those wonderful beaches.
Erongo and Cape Town have a lot in common; for one their Mountains play pivotal roles in shaping their identities despite the fact that Erongo Mountain and Table Mountain will never meet, not even their shadows will cross.
| Cape Town vs. Johannesburg; which city would you rather live in? |
17 Feb |
![]() |
Let’s say you work in a company that has offices out in Johannesburg and Cape Town, your superiors then give you the option to choose which ever city you want to be based in, which city would you want to live in?
For some, the obvious choice would be to look at houses for sale in Cape Town, there is less traffic, shorter working hours, the weather is amazing, the pace is slower and then there’s the beach. Others however prefer the fast paced life-style of Johannesburg they enjoy the hustle and bustle and the vibrant environment the city offers.
Houses for sale in Cape Town’s northern suburbs that have; 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 lounges, staff quarters, alarms, and an access gates cost around R 3,495,000 negotiable. A house for sale in Johannesburg’s northern suburb with similar features will set you back R 3,950,000.
From a financial stand-point Cape Town wins this battle but all in all it is really up to you, wherever you are happy that’s where you should be.
The Cape Town vs. Johannesburg war won’t end anytime soon, people have different priorities and preferences some people have the luxury of choice and others are privileged enough to be based in both Cities, and to the privilege one’s I ask; why choose one when you can have both?

| A student asylum in Cape Town |

Back in my varsity days I used to live with a good friend of mine in a bachelors apartment, we managed to fit in two single beds and our little study desks. It helped that the apartment came with two closets so we each had space to store our own stuff.
Needless to say that we had one of the busiest rooms in the whole apartment complex we made lots of friends and because of our laptops and stereo’s people loved hanging out at our place. Thursday nights were student nights and clubs gave free entry anyone with a valid student card. It was a cool life but after 2 months I moved back home to focus more on my studies.
Student property for rent in Cape Town can be found in suburbs like Mowbray due to its close proximity to the University of Cape Town. A 1 bed and 1 bath apartment in Mowbray is close to the trendy restaurants and coffee shops that are new editions to the suburb.
Mowbray is known as the transitory neighbourhood because of Main Road Mowbray which is an interchange for busses, taxis and trains.
What you find in Mowbray is a mix of UCT students from all over the world as well as refugee communities housing people from North Africa. Mowbray is a good place to learn; about yourself, your studies and other people from different walks of life.

Holiday apartments are the ideal set-up for anyone who wants to thoroughly enjoy their holiday, let’s face it you don’t really need someone to pick up after you whilst you are on holiday. Just because you are taking some time doesn’t mean that you are suddenly incapable of taking care of your temporary living area.
Instead of booking into a hotel, B&B or a guest house try a holiday apartment! This new form of property for rent gives you the opportunity to experience Cape Town on your own terms.
These self-catering holiday apartments allow you to spend money wisely; instead of going out for meals you can buy groceries like you normally would and simply cook as you would back home. Another benefit is time and privacy you needn’t worry about waking up to catch the breakfast buffet you can basically wake up whenever you want, come and go as you please until the time comes for you to check-out.
The booking rates of holiday apartments are a lot cheaper than other types of holiday accommodation packages. Holiday apartments cater for groups of 2 – 6 occupying an apartment and the more people there are the cheaper the cost of the apartment.
If you’re going to Cape Town on holiday soon, try renting out a holiday apartment you will not regret it.
